Roughly 50 vehicles have been marked with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement state they were notified during the night on Wednesday night, when a individual discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been placed in the form of a swastika, they stated.
Officers then located many other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations indicate the substance was probably human blood.
"There is still no lead as to where it came from; investigators are currently not informed of any harm in association with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking representative said the vandalism made him stunned and had to be addressed promptly.
"This event affects the core of Hanau and reopens the pain of the far-right violent incident in 2020," he posted on online, recalling the murder of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
